Gaming fans were surprised when a joint project between Disney and Squaresoft announced. Kingdom Hearts was released in 2002 for the Playstation2. They had fun gameplay, a wacky storyline, a strong fan following, and best of all... tons of crossover/cameo characters you thought you'd never see again.

Yuffie first appears in Traverse Town, where she usually is during the whole game. Her role in this story was part of a group fighting against evil Ansem. The others in her group were Squall (FF8) and Aeris (FF7). All Final Fantasy characters came from the world called Hollow Bastion - the most beautiful world, in my opinion. Ansem was a ruler there until he became evil, corrupted the whole place; thus the FF crew was forced to flee.

Yuffie received a makeover in design, just like the rest of her team. Though Cloud (FF7) and Sephiroth (FF7) also appear in KH, Yuffie mostly is seen in the company of Squall/Leon. It is interesting to note that while Leon grew 8 years, Yuffie remains 16. Another quirky fact is that Hollow Bastion is also home to Belle and Beast from the Disney movie, Beauty and the Beast.

As of this moment, a sequel to Kingdom Hearts is in the works. A mini-sequel of sorts titled "Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories" was released in late 2004 for the Nintendo Gameboy Advance/DS. No confirmed news on which FF characters will be returning in Kingdom Hearts 2.
